The Brother DCP-163C uses Brother LC-980VALBRF ink cartridges. Brother LC-980VALBRF ink comes in black and multicolour; the black cartridge prints 300 pages, the multicolour cartridge prints 260 pages.
The Brother DCP-163C multifunction printer incorporates a colour scanner, a copier, and an inkjet printer in one compact product. It is notable for its direct printing capabilities, letting users print from a memory card and digital camera, but it is also appreciated for its fair print speeds and good photo printouts. However, some users may find the Brother DCP-163C to be inefficient for bulk printing and copying.
Integrated with 32MB of RAM, a USB 2.0 interface, and a colour inkjet engine, the Brother DCP-163C all-in-one printer is designed for speed and efficiency. The DCP-163C is a compact device that measures 390x365x150mm (WxDxH), but is quite heavy at 7.1kg. There is an A4 CIS scanner and a copier on top of the device with a simple control panel with an easy-to-use interface. PictBridge and memory card ports are located in the front centre, above the 100-sheet capacity input tray.
The scanner comes with an OCR software. It is possible to save scanned images directly to a memory card inserted into the built-in slots of the Brother DCP 163C inkjet printer. Direct printing is also possible from PictBridge-compatible digital cameras and supported memory cards, such as SDHC and xD picture card. Colour images and pictures printed by the DCP-163C look vibrant because of the high 1200x6000dpi resolution of the Brother DCP163C printer.
Despite having memory card slots, the Brother DCP-163C offers limited support. Memory stick duo and Mini SD cards require an adapter. The copier and printer tend to be sluggish despite the higher RAM. Compatibility issues with Windows 7 are common, limiting the Brother DCP-163C's versatility.
