The Brother MFC-885CW uses Brother LC1000BK ink cartridges. Brother LC1000BK ink comes in black; the black cartridge prints 500 pages.
The Brother MFC-885CW is suitable for a small business or home office that requires a speedy printer with a fax machine, scanner, and copier. It is also network-ready and integrated with features that promise to increase productivity. However, the MFC-885CW can be expensive to run, and its Wi-Fi has a lot of room for improvement.
Weighing almost 9 kg, the Brother MFC885CW has a contemporary and sleek aesthetic that makes it suitable for the modern office or home network. Its centrepiece is the widescreen 4.2-inch colour LCD screen, which complements the PhotoCapture with the PictBridge and media card slots. There is a 19200 dpi colour scanner, a flatbed copier with an automatic document feeder, PC fax, and a fax modem. This printer runs on colour inkjet technology with a 4-cartridge ink system.
The Brother MFC 885CW is easy to set-up and it is backed by excellent customer support. The small footprint allows it to fit into a cramped desktop, while borderless printing lets users maximise the white space on their media. The Brother MFC885CW can also be integrated into a wired network. The copier can be used as a stand-alone device, while documents being scanned can be converted into editable text. Users can directly print from a USB flash drive, media card, or digital camera via the memory card slots and PictBridge interfaces.
The printer tends to clean itself frequently, so it wastes ink. The scan quality is disappointing and printouts are average, at best. The Brother MFC-885CW's Wi-Fi is difficult to configure and does not work properly, making it difficult for users to wirelessly fax, scan, or print. The fax modem is outdated and slow at 14.4kbps when compared to faster 33.6 kbps types. The Brother MFC-885CW is not ENERGY STAR qualified.
