Expert review of the Brother MFC-J5930DW printer
The Brother MFCJ5930DW is a reasonably priced, mid-range all-in-one printer with a good variety of options, including A3 printing, scanning and copying. The bulky size may make it incompatible with some homes, but it is ideal for a small or home office. With fast printing speeds, large paper capacity and easy maintenance, this printer is efficient, while features such as cloud storage apps are easily accessed from the touchscreen. The black and white design of the printer gives it an up-to-date look that should fit in with the decor of today's small offices.
Design
The Brother MFC-J5930DW is a large printer at 30.4cm high, 52cm wide and 40cm deep when the paper feed is closed. This all-in-one printer includes a printer, scanner, copier and fax machine. Connectivity is via a USB or wirelessly, and the printer also has an Ethernet interface to connect with office networks. It is mobile and cloud compatible.
Advantages
For such a versatile printer, the Brother MFCJ5930DW is competitively priced. The A4 printing is fast at 12 ppm for black and 9 ppm for colour, and it also offers the option of A3 printing. The 9.3cm touchscreen control panel is responsive and gives easy access to all the functions of the printer. Setup and maintenance are straightforward, with easy-to-replace ink cartridges available in two sizes. The 500-sheet paper capacity reduces the time needed for reloading but includes an alert for when the paper is running low.
Disadvantages
The bulky size of the Brother MFC-J5930DW makes this printer awkward in homes or offices where space is at a premium. The print quality is of an acceptable standard but is not outstanding. In particular, the colour fills when printing on plain paper can be disappointing. The paper feeds sideways into the machine and "flutters" to prevent jamming. This makes the machine noisy during operation.
