Canon MultiPass F80 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon MultiPass F80 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Canon MultiPass F80 is a multifunction inkjet printer which has the capacity for colour printing, faxing, scanning and copying. It is quite a large machine, so check first whether you have the space for it. As a basic printer, it will carry out the normal printing requirements of a small or home office, but without any finishing options. The fax function has an array of handy features and as printing speeds are good, it will work efficiently. Reaching stringent energy standards, you can also feel confident that you are reducing your environmental impact as well as saving money on energy costs.

Design

The design of the Canon MultiPass F80 features a white casing with a grey control panel, upon which are a number of buttons to manage printing operations and a two-line, 20-character display screen. Printing resolution is 600 dpi for monochrome printing and 1200x2400 dpi for colour documents. Maximum printing speeds are 20 ppm for black and white documents and 13 ppm for colour printing. An input tray holds 100 sheets of paper, while an automatic document feeder can hold 30 sheets. Connection is achieved via a USB interface. The size of the printer is 46 x 52 x 23 cm.

Advantages

With Energy Star certification, the Canon MultiPass F80 can help reduce energy costs and is also gentler on the environment. The printer incorporates four office machines, meaning there is no need for additional expense or space requirements. Features of the fax function include Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD), an activity report, speed dialling, answering machine interface and automatic redialling.

Disadvantages

There are no finishing options on the Canon MultiPass F80, so these will need to be carried out by hand. As quite a large printer, you may find this hard to find a place for in a limited space. Due to the style of the cartridges for this printer they can also be quite messy to change and cause some minor ink spillages.
