Canon Pixma iP2200 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon Pixma iP2200 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

User-friendly and speedy, the Canon Pixma iP2200 is a simple yet versatile device for photo and document printing needs at home or for school. It is affordable with basic yet resilient hardware, but the Canon iP2200 lacks a few essentials and automated features that can make it more user-friendly and easier to manage.

Design

The Canon iP2200 is an entry-level printer with a basic desktop form factor producing speeds of 22 ppm. There is one paper feeder at the back but there is no paper tray attached to the Pixma iP2200. All printer configuration must be done through the PC, which can be connected to the printer via USB. The entire device weighs 2.9kg only and measures 435mm wide, 165mm tall, and 253mm deep.

Advantages

With competitive speeds and fair running costs, the Canon Pixma iP2200 is quite easy to maintain. It is generally affordable, prints in high resolution (4800x1200 dpi), and has integrated Canon FINE cartridge technology for reliable performance. Users can print borderless A4-size photographs and load up to 100 sheets at a time. The Canon Pixma iP2200 is also praised for being fairly quiet, lightweight, and compact.

Disadvantages

The hardware of the Canon Pixma iP2200 can be a problem because the cartridges need to be aligned manually. For something claiming to be an inkjet photo printer, this device lacks direct printing features such as PictBridge and built-in memory card slots. Photographs look a bit grainy with over-saturated colours, losing their actual detail when printed in normal mode. Budget-conscious users may find the Pixma iP2200 expensive to run when compared to its competitors.
