The Canon Pixma iX6550 uses Canon 4529B006AA ink cartridges. Canon 4529B006AA ink comes in black; the black cartridge prints 341 pages x 2.
A relatively affordable medium-format printer, the Canon Pixma iX6550 allows you to print up to A3+ sized outputs fast. It is naturally wider than other printers at 549mm, although it is still compact compared to other medium format printers. Print quality is superb, with maximum resolution up to 9600x2400 dpi. The Canon Pixma iX6550 also allows borderless printing and boasts fast print speeds. It does not, however, support PictBridge or Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Canon Pixma iX6550 has telescopic paper trays to lessen footprint. It features a glossy black shell typical of Canon printers, making it a stylish addition to your home set up. It connects to a PC via USB, and has minimal, easy-to-use controls (only 2 for powering on/off, and cancelling print jobs). There is no LCD screen or PictBridge port for direct printing from supported devices.
The print engine of the Canon Pixma iX6550 features the same 5-ink cartridges, which significantly drives down running costs. It has print speeds of up to 11.3ppm for monochromatic pages, and 8.8ppm for colour pages. The Canon Pixma iX6550 accepts a good range of media types, and prints quite well on glossy or matte photo paper – no speckling or banding.
Expect occasional bleeding when it comes to plain text, but this rarely happens. The Canon Pixma iX6550 could have been integrated with Wi-Fi connectivity, or at least the addition of PictBridge support. Still, it is a good quality medium-format ideal for home or small business usage.
