Expert review of the Epson EcoTank L1800 printer
The Epson EcoTank L1800 is a 6-colour printer providing low-cost and high-quality photographs and colour documents. Ideal for cost-conscious homes, photographers and offices with high-volume printing requirements, its high-capacity ink system prints up to 1,800 10cm x 15cm photos before it needs a refill, keeping productivity high. It also employs fast ink top-up technology and a drip-free nozzle, so when it is time for a refill, it is quick and easy.
Design
The EcoTank L1800 can print A3 prints and is, therefore, quite large, measuring 705mm x 322mm x 215mm (width x depth x height) and weighing 12.5kg. Compatible operating systems include Mac OS 10.5.8 or later, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP, and it produces business-quality prints from A3 to C4 to C6 sizes. The output is consistent for relatively high volumes, with a paper tray capacity of 100 standard sheets and 30 photo sheets and an output tray capacity of 50 sheets.
Advantages
The L1800 prints photographs in around 191 seconds and has maximum speeds of around 15 pages per minute for both monochrome and colour prints. The quality is high, and with downloading different colour pre-sets, it’s possible to get the palette exactly right if any adjustment is required. Epson’s Micro Piezo technology allows the inkjet to propel the ink via an electrical charge. This means there is less waste, improved accuracy and more reliability.
Disadvantages
The Epson EcoTank L1800 can only produce standard prints with no other multifunction capabilities, and the USB cable is the only option for connectivity to your PC. This means that this printer is only ideal for printing photographs and related documents.
