Expert review of the Epson EcoTank L355 printer
The Epson EcoTank L355 wireless all-in-one with integrated ink system is the cheaper of Epson's two EcoTank printers. These environmentally friendly printers stand out because instead of conventional ink cartridges, they feature two large ink tanks which users must refill only once each two years, thus saving more money over longer time periods despite this all-in-one printer's initial high cost.
Design
The Epson EcoTank L355 wireless all-in-one, unlike the more expensive Epson EcoTank L555, lacks a fax machine or automatic document feeder. Both EcoTank models, however, include 1200dpi copiers and scanners in addition to their signature built-in ink tanks. Each Epson EcoTank L355 printer comes with 70ml ink bottles to fill the tanks after about 4,000 monochrome or 6,500 colour print outs. The dimensions of this black rectangular machine are 47.2 x 30 x 14.5cm, but the control panel is fairly basic.
Advantages
The main Epson EcoTank L355 advantage is that this printer's ink tanks must only be refilled once per two years, allowing users to save money by not having to frequently purchase traditional ink cartridges. The L355 all-in-one wireless printer is most suitable for casual home photographers wishing to reproduce good quality prints from mobile or digital cameras. The Epson L-355 EcoTank printer also comes with wireless connectivity and a USB 2.0 port. Average plain paper printing speeds per minute are 15 colour pages or 33 black and white pages. The original Epson L355 ink bottles are purpose built for the machine and deliver affordable, mess free colour printing of the higest quality.
Disadvantages
Users requiring fax machines or an automatic document feeder may wish to opt for the costlier EcoTank L555. Those on tighter budgets, on the other hand, may prefer the Epson Home XP-225, which is basically the same device as the Epson EcoTank L 355 minus the special EcoTank system. LCD screens and card readers are also missing from the Epson L355 colour ink printer.
