Epson FX-890 Printer Review

Expert review of the Epson FX-890 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

A rugged office that needs a straightforward and user-friendly printer for forms and basic documents can consider the Epson FX-890 high volume 9-pin printer. With dot-matrix technology, the Epson FX-890 dot-matrix printer is fairly cheap to run compared with modern options, and the additional networking options allow easy sharing, but some users might be disappointed with the print quality, speed, and overall efficiency for high volume output.

Design

This is a nine-pin and narrow-carriage dot matrix printer with a rating of 20,000 POH (power-on hours) and engineered for easy integration among industrial environments. The FX-890 invoice printer comes with USB and parallel connections as a standard, and it uses a 7.5 million character ribbon cartridge. The Epson FX890 POS printer weighs 7.62Kg and measures 16.3 inches wide, 6.6 inches tall, and 13.8 inches deep. There is 128KB of memory and a small but clearly labelled control panel with one-touch operational buttons.

Advantages

The Epson FX-890 impact dot-matrix printer supports 13 international character sets and character tables. Print speeds are reasonable for low volume output and it offers a Type B slot for interface cards. It is also praised for the reasonable price and ease in set-up. The Epson FX-890 impact printer is cheap to run with its low-cost Epson FX890 ribbon cartridge. The compact frame of the FX890 printer is a space-saver in crowded environments.

Disadvantages

It is noisy and prone to paper jam. Epson may need to improve the build and engine quality of this device to make it more resilient especially when printing for many hours. The Epson FX-890 printer is slow, too, so it is not a good choice for high volume output. Print quality is not that impressive or presentable, and media handling is very limited. Users running newer operating systems like Windows 7 might have a difficulty installing the device.
