The Epson FX-890IIN is a dot matrix printer that is of a size that makes it suitable for a small office or similar commercial premises. It is a durable machine that is designed to be put to work and can boast 20,000 power-on hours of mean time between failures and the ability to print multilayer pages. Although it is a hardwearing machine, this benefit can be hindered by the fact that it does suffer paper jams, especially when processing high-yield print jobs.
Design
The Epson FX-890IIN is configured for ease of use with the control panel having been placed on the front of the unit. It has a tractor feed that can be operated by a side dial to tailor printing settings. The Epson FX-890IIN’s internal 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet print server works quickly, and it is compatible with Mac and Windows. The ink comes from a ribbon cartridge that has a 7.5 million character capacity.
Advantages
The Epson FX-890IIN provides a print resolution of 240 x 144 dpi, which starts from the narrow carriage 9-pin print head. The bi-direction print facility helps to ensure that the printer can be relied upon for accuracy, and it is capable of printing pages that comprise up to seven parts. The print speed of 685 cps is sufficient for a busy workplace. This resilient machine measures 41.4 x 35.1 x 16.8 cm and weighs only 8 kg, so it is easy to position and move around.
Disadvantages
The Epson FX-890IIN is not the most modern of machines, and it does become jammed every so often, with the paper needed to be manually removed. It is quite impractical for large print jobs as it can only handle one sheet of paper at a time, adding an unnecessary waiting period to the process.
