Epson LQ-570 Printer Review

Expert review of the Epson LQ-570 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Epson LQ-570 is a cost-effective dot-matrix printer that boasts faster output, enhanced graphics and a quieter operation than earlier models in the range and excels at delivering crisp and clear text for reports and letters. There are none of the usual bumps and grinds at startup, and the printer has a wide choice of built-in fonts. This is a budget printer that does not trade off on quality and efficiency, making it perfect for a business looking for a quiet and compact workhorse for invoices and receipts.

Design

Measuring 6.3 x 17.1 x 14.5 in and weighing 14.8 lb, the Epson LQ-570 is unobtrusive and handy for any worktop. With a top print speed of 154 cps at print pitch 12, it can handle substantial batches with ease, and there are several paper feed methods available including friction, push-tracker, pull-tracker, single-bin and double-bin. Paper feed speed is 2.8 inches per second, and the control panel allows for quick and easy access to a range of print functions, including pause, tear-off and font selection.

Advantages

With its nearly noiseless operation and fast print options, the Epson LQ-570 will prove itself indispensable in any small office. The unusually wide range of fonts available, including proportional versions that allow for printing of characters at their true width without unnecessary spacing, greatly enhances the readability and professional appearance of lettering. The printer uses regular black ribbon cartridges and the normal print speed of 315 cps can be pushed to 337 cps with the LQ-570-plus model.

Disadvantages

This printer does not print in colour and a lack of scanning and copying capability may put off users who want a multi-function machine for an office with limited space. The control panel, whilst offering better access to print functions than earlier models in the range, is rather overloaded with buttons and can take time to master.
