The Epson Stylus Pro 3880 is a wide-format device aimed at users who need a speedy and efficient printer for their creative projects and publications. Designed for professionals, the Stylus Pro 3880 promises high quality photographic output, but there are still a few flaws that Epson needs to improve on.
Design
The Epson Stylus Pro 3880 printer is designed with MicroPiezo AMC print head technology for high resolution printouts at 2880x1440 dpi and ink consumption at a minimum of 3.5-picoliter droplets. AccuPhoto HD2 screening technology is also integrated in the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 for maximised colour gamut and optimised ink consumption. The wide-format device has auto-sharing black ink technology for text documents and monochrome pictures. On-board is a small backlit display in the control panel on the right-hand top corner of the Epson 3880.
Advantages
The Epson Stylus Pro 3880 is a professional photo printer with high-grade output. It can print in wide-format, on media as big as 17 inches wide and 24 inches long. The printer is integrated with high-density Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology with vivid magenta for more vibrant colours and a wider colour palette, which is perfect for photo printing. There are multiple paper feeds, so the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 has versatile paper handling.
Disadvantages
Although the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 is considered a photo printer, there are no direct printing options from digital cameras and memory cards. From afar, photos and graphics look nice until you take a closer look to see slight banding, which happens when printing on ordinary paper and glossy paper. Meanwhile, graphics revealed mild smudging and slight misalignment when printed using the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. Another setback is the speed, which is not that fast and impressive as Epson claims it to be. There is no option to support paper rolls.
