Not only does the SX215 offer copying, scanning and print functionality, but also comes with a four-in-one memory card slot that can be used in conjunction with the LCD display to preview and print documents. Ideal for the whole family, the Epson SX215 printer is excellent value for money and can even be used without having to connect to a PC.
Design
The Stylus SX215 is fairly standard in appearance with a conventional boxy design. The paper feed system is substantial for a budget printer, the slanted paper feed tray at the rear of the printer can hold up to 100 sheets and there is more than enough room in the output tray. On top of the printer is a full-colour 3.8 cm LCD screen which is just the right size to preview thumbnails and scroll through menus. The front of the printer houses the memory card reader which accepts xD, SD and MemoryStick formats.
Advantages
Print quality is impressive for a budget all-in-one and is more than reasonable. The Stylus SX215 can handle text documents with ease, and coloured graphics look superb. Don't expect lab quality photographic prints, but for a market-entry printer the results are fairly decent – images are vibrant with an adequate amount of detail. The same can be said with the 1,200 dpi flatbed scanner, which does a fantastic job at replicating images as well as text documents. Aside from print quality, the SX215 is extremely easy to use and maintain, replacing the Epson SX215 ink cartridges is simple and quick to do.
Disadvantages
It would have been nice to see WiFi or an Ethernet port installed on the Epson SX215 – the lack of networking options may put of some home users, especially those who are looking to connect up more than one computer. PictBridge or USB support wouldn't go amiss either and would open up the printer to the digital camera market.
