It consists of 8 models (from 3910 to 3940v) and is known for producing high resolution outputs of up to 600x600dpi for black text and 4800x1200 optimized dpi for colour prints. The HP Deskjet 3900 printers generally have print speeds of up to 16ppm and 12ppm for black text, and full page colour outputs. They are however, very basic units, with no special selling points other than their portability.

The HP Deskjet 3900 series is a family of lightweight, very compact colour printer units, all measuring approximately 5.6x16.6x13.62 inches, and weighing around 4.5 lbs.
