HP Deskjet F2280 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Deskjet F2280 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

An entry-level multifunction printer, the F2280 from HP is a one-stop-shop, designed for users looking for an affordable and easy to use all-in-one printer. Whether you're photocopying books, scanning old holiday photos or printing documents, the F2280 is here to help. HP printers are renowned for their reliability and the F2880 is no exception, it is built to last and will definitely withstand the test of time.

Design

The HP F2280 inkjet printer could be described as minimalistic - with its plain white and grey case – others would just call it plain boring. HP has really cut costs in the design department for this one. Disappointingly, the F2280 lacks a display screen opting instead for a handful of control buttons that control the copier and some warning lights just in case you're running low on ink. The plus side to having the bare minimum is that the F2280 is small and compact, making it ideal if you have limited space in your home study or bedroom.

Advantages

All-in-one printers often get bad press with critics claiming companies simply throw on the scanner with little thought for quality. Fortunately this isn't the case with the HP F2280 inkjet printer. The flatbed scanner produces great results – images and documents look clear with no signs of quality deterioration. Print quality is equally impressive with text documents looking sharp, regardless of font size. Unfortunately, colour graphics and photographs didn't fare so well, with images suffering from contrast issues and fading.

Disadvantages

One of the F2280's biggest downfalls is print speed, expect around 6ppm for standard text documents and 4ppm for colour. Photo printing is even slower with a 10cmx15cm print taking over one and half minutes. And it isn't just the printer that's slow, the scanner and copier also suffer from the same problem. HP have also overlooked network functionality- it would have been nice to see a memory card reader or Wi-Fi added to the printer, setting it aside from some of the other low-end all-in-ones.
