Expert review of the HP Officejet J4680 printer
The HP Officejet J4680 is a multifunction printer designed with businesses and home users in mind. As a small office printer the J4680 does a fairly good job but its overall print speed and lack of duplexing could cause issues if you have a number of computers on the print network. Overall, HP have produced a fairly low-cost printer with some superb features which you simply won't find at this price point.
Design
The printer is fairly cumbersome (43cmx40cmx22cm) but is to be expected from a small-office device. On the left of the printer is the control panel and LCD display screen, from here you can select print features, copy documents or send faxes. There's also a 50 sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) – a rare feature for a mid-to-low range all-in-one. Unfortunately, the paper tray can only hold 100 sheets which will pose problems if your print volumes are high.
Advantages
If you're after top quality output then you're in luck. The HP J4680 inkjet printer produces crisp, professional text documents with ease. Graphics are fairly impressive too; colours appear deep with no signs of fading. Photographic printing doesn't fare as well, but if you're using this in an office setting then this shouldn't pose too much of a problem. The ADF and fax machine are a welcome addition which the majority of mid-range printers seem to be lacking.
Disadvantages
Speed is one area which lets the HP J4680 inkjet printer down. Although print speed is quoted at 28ppm for black and 22ppm for colour, the actual times are nearer 17ppm and 13ppm respectively. This is more than adequate for a home printer, but may pose problems if you are using the J4680 on a small-office network. The Officejet printer also lacks duplexing and the ability to scan to email.
