The HP Officejet V40 is worth a try if you have a small office or would like to have a business-friendly all-in-one device at home. It is a midrange machine with a good selection of features that promise to improve productivity. The manufacturer could have given it a sturdier build, though, because it is not very durable.
Design
Built around a 600 dpi colour inkjet printer is a 36-bit colour scanner, a copier, and a fax machine. The paper tray is poorly designed and can only hold up to 100 sheets at a time. The HP Officejet V40 can only connect to a PC via a USB connection. The device is 9.5 inches tall, but surprisingly compact in diameter (12.9 inches) and in width (17.8 inches). It weighs 7.8 kilograms.
Advantages
This device works as a standalone fax machine that transmits colour and monochrome messages. Users can fold the paper tray when not in use to save more space. All the functions of the HP Officejet V40 can be accessed through a launcher application called 'Director,' including advanced copy features and OCR function.
Disadvantages
Some features of the HP Officejet V40 are a little outdated, including the 14.4 Kbps modem, which is downright slow when compared to other multifunction devices with 33.6 Kbps transmission capacity. It is a little noisy when printing in 'econofast' mode, emitting up to 53 dBA of noise. The HP Officejet V40 is rather flimsy and prone to system issues. This printer needs a USB cord to work with a PC, but does not come with one.
