The HP PSC 2179 uses HP 56 ink cartridges. HP 56 ink comes in black; the black cartridge prints 520 pages.
This office printer is an all-in-one device with a copier and a scanner. It promises higher productivity for home and small office users looking for a multifunction device. However, the HP PSC 2179 lacks a few essential features, such as networking support.
This box-type multifunction device has a flatbed scanner on top. All the controls are neatly arranged on a panel to your top right. The slightly-angled LCD screen allows you to easily view the HP PSC 2179's status, but it is small and may be difficult to read in poorly lit conditions. The HP PSC 2179 weighs about17.25 lbs, but it is compact (14.1-inch in depth, 17.8 inches wide, and 10.7 inches tall).
The HP PSC 2179 uses the drop-on-demand print method in its thermal inkjet system, which claims to save ink. The scanner's default 1200x2400 dpi resolution can be digitally enhanced to 19200 dpi for more vibrant colours. The copier can produce up to 99 copies from the original. In 'fast' mode, the HP PSC 2179 can produce up to 18 ppm in monochrome and 13 ppm in colour.
This printer is quite flimsy, so users need to handle it with extra care while changing cartridges or adjusting the paper tray. Some users report that the ink cartridge holders tend to break easily. The HP PSC 2179 is also prone to paper jams because of the poorly-designed paper tray. For a multifunction printer, the HP PSC 2179 is slow. With only 8MB of internal memory, it becomes sluggish when printing in 'best' mode or scanning materials in high resolution.
