Expert review of the Brother MFC-J615W printer
This small but efficient all-in-one device is quick to warm-up and print, so users can save time and accomplish more in their office. However, despite its direct printing features, the Brother MFC-J615W is not the best choice for graphics and photo printing.
Design
With a relatively small footprint (15.4 inches wide, 7.1 inches tall, and 14.8 inches deep), the Brother MFC-J615W is quite compact for the home office. It weighs almost 8 kg and is integrated with a flatbed scanner, a colour copier, and a Super G3 33.6 Kbps fax modem. A numeric pad is located to the left-hand part of the control panel, while dedicated buttons for one-touch functions are neatly arranged to the right. The widescreen LCD display is the centrepiece of the Brother MFC-J615W; directly below it lies the PhotoCapture Centre feature, which includes media card slots, a USB flash drive port, and the PictBridge interface.
Advantages
The 3.3-inch LCD display is large enough and can be flipped-up for ease in navigating through the menus and previewing photos. Unlike other Brother multifunction devices, the Brother MFC J615W comes with a 2-year warranty. The MFC-J615W printer is also reasonably priced and it comes with a good selection of features such as fax and an automatic document feeder for a small office. Users also praise the Brother MFC-J615W for its Wi-Fi, quiet printing, and the scan-to-PDF feature. The Brother MFCJ615W printer is Energy Star-qualified.
Disadvantages
Photo and graphic print quality is sub-par. Paper capacity is limited to 100 sheets only, while the copier can only work when connected to a PC. The construction of the Brother MFC-J615W feels flimsy, so users need to take extra care in handling the plastic frame. The starter inks that come with the package as well as the overall print speed are average at best.
