HP Photosmart C6188 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Photosmart C6188 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The HP Photosmart C6188 comes highly recommended for offices, offering the versatility of a multifunction device that can print, scan, copy, and fax – and do it all wirelessly. All these functions work even without a PC. The HP Photosmart C6188 is just one of the many models of the C6000 Photosmart series that allows wireless, PC-less, and network operation. With 6 ink cartridges to maintain, however, production and running costs can add up.

Design

While the HP Photosmart C6188 is not the smallest MFP in the market, it is still compact at only 18X19.4x17 inches. The unit still uses HP's drop-on-demand inkjet technology, although it now has 6 cartridge slots to accommodate CMYK, light cyan, and light magenta inks. To support PC-less operation, the machine incorporates memory card slots that read a wide variety of storage media, plus a PictBridge port. The HP Photosmart C6188 can connect to a PC via Ethernet, USB, or through a wireless network. Bluetooth support is optional.

Advantages

The 6-ink system that the HP Photosmart C6188 uses can both be an advantage and disadvantage. With more colours to utilize, images and graphics have better and more true-to-life quality, than just regular CMYK combinations. Print resolution is as high as 4800x1200dpi. Windows and Mac computers are compatible with it.

Disadvantages

The 6-ink system can become a problem, as replacements are quite expensive. The machine will also stop printing completely, even if only one cartridge runs empty.
