Expert review of the Brother PT-H100 printer
The Brother PT-H100 is an affordable handheld labelling machine that is easy for anyone to use. With a myriad of uses in the home, workplace and schools, a portable device such as this can go wherever it is needed. With a choice of tape sizes and materials, it can produce a good range of labels, though it only has one font, which can limit the designs. With a comfortable grip, it is easy to operate, but the alphabetical keypad may take some getting used to for those more accustomed to a QWERTY keyboard. The main drawback to this device is the amount of tape wastage caused by the large margins that the machine puts onto every label.
Design
The Brother P-Touch H100 is a grey-coloured device with curved sides designed to fit comfortably into the hand. The front is covered by a keypad for operating the device, which includes a keyboard with an alphabetical layout. It operates using six AAA batteries. The printing speed is 20mm per second. It takes four different widths of tapes from 3.5mm to 12mm.
Advantages
With its curved sides, the Brother PT-H100 is easy to hold in one hand while typing with the other. As a fully contained unit, it can be used anywhere. There is a good range of different-sized tapes that fit this machine, and the laminated labels are durable, allowing them to be used outdoors or in challenging environments. The nine most commonly used labels can be saved for future use.
Disadvantages
With an alphabetical keyboard, the Brother H100 may take some getting used to for those more accustomed to a QWERTY keyboard. There is a large margin at the beginning and end of each label, which results in a fair bit of tape wastage. The LCD is not backlit, so it is hard to read in certain lighting. It prints in only one font.
