INTRODUCTION

Nicknamed the ‘small-in-one’, the Epson XP 435’s stylish, sleek design sets it apart from other printers in this price range. A great choice for at home use, although its wireless capabilities also make it a good choice for those who may need to print whilst out and about or away from a desk. The Epson XP 435 has the added bonus of being a very straight forward setup, ideal for first time buyers, and you won’t put your back out whilst moving it around due to its impressively light weight.

FEATURES

The Epson XP 435 is a neat little wireless printer that connects to a number of handy apps including Apple Airprint, Google Cloud Print and Email Printing meaning the user can print direct from their smart device from anywhere that has Wi-Fi accessibility. A scanner and copier is attached making it better value for money than many printers on the market although admittedly prints of documents which have been scanned do lack quality. Whilst the official specifications claim that it will print up to 33 pages per minute, we have found it actually prints at a more believable speed of around 8 monochrome pages per minute or roughly 4 colour pages, which is still quite admirable.

DESIGN

For us, the design is the real star of the show with the Epson XP 435. It is superbly designed and very attractive to look at. The shiny, white surface is very chic and the device features a 6.8cm LCD colour operator panel with well-labelled buttons making it very user-friendly and easy to use. Unlike many operating panels you don’t have to squint to see the display. Paper is loaded at the back where the input tray (with a capacity for 100 sheets) slides out from its concealed compartment. The output tray is located at the front of the printer and also slides out, keeping the whole printer more compact, hence its nickname the small-in-one. Total measurements are 39.0‎ x 30.0 x 14.5 cm (W x D x H) and it weighs a featherweight 4.2kg.

PRINT QUALITY

The print quality is very good for the price as it produces crisp, clear text and glossy, high quality photos at a dpi of 5760 x 1440. The Epson XP 435 uses 4 cartridges meaning the user only needs to replace the colour which runs out instead of replacing the full set of three colours. However, the real downside for this printer is in the scanning capabilities. Whilst we were very pleased with the normal print function, an item that has been printed from a copy or scan simply lacks the vibrancy of the original image or document.

VALUE

Epson branded toners will last for up to 180 pages which works out at a rate of 3.3p per page for both mono and colour printing which is fairly standard.High yield toners can also be purchased for this device which shave the costs further as each of these lasts for approximately 450 pages, which at a cost of £10 per cartridge works out as 2.2p per page.
