Designed with home offices and small businesses in mind, the Brother Fax 2490 is a compact and high-speed fax machine. The simple and intuitive interface includes an easy-to-use keyboard panel and a small digital screen. The powerful machine offers speedy processing of at best 2.5 seconds per page with the help of an automatic document feeder that can accommodate up to 20 pages. The USB port provides an additional function of laser printing (at up to 21 pages per minute), which is possible by downloading the free printing driver.
Design
Compact and attractive, the Brother Fax 2490 measures just 14.7 x 14.6 x 12.2 inches and weighs 20 pounds. It has a 33.6 bps modem and 16MB of storage memory (or 400 pages) as standard. The powerful system provides a decent amount of location details storage, with 22 locations available via One Touch and 200 via speed dial. The machine offers a group dial feature with up to eight locations. It can hold up to 250 sheets within one paper tray alongside a single-sheet, manual-feed slot with material up to 8.5 x 14 inches. The Brother Fax 2490 is highly efficient, being compatible with most modern Windows operating systems as well as the current Mac OS software.
Advantages
Simple yet highly productive, the Brother Fax 249 offers an ideal faxing solution for home offices and small businesses. The decent speeds and high-resolution image reproduction make it surprisingly powerful for its size and price. The addition of a printer is another great feature.
Disadvantages
Perfect for small-volume faxing, the Brother Fax 2490 does not have the processing power or number of features required for higher-volume users. From paper input capacity to location detail storage amounts and paper output, this machine may not be suitable for large-scale consumers.
