Expert review of the Brother MFC-7460N printer
Well built for office and even home use, the Brother MFC-7460N allows fast and easy scanning, copying, printing and faxing. The machine features a larger capacity ADF, which can hold up to 50 sheets of paper (an upgrade to the earlier version's 35-page capacity). The Brother MFC-7460N also offers fast print speeds, of up to 28 ppm, and a standard memory of 32 MB (RAM). It supports networking but does not have colour printing capabilities or wireless connectivity.
Design
The Brother MFC-7460N is not a very compact machine, although this is forgivable, given its long list of features. It has an ADF, 33 kbps fax modem, 250-sheet paper tray, built in Ethernet and USB ports, and a flat bed scanner, which also serves as a digital copier. The scanner can copy coloured images, while the fax component allows users to send and receive messages directly from a PC.
Advantages
The Brother MFC-7460N can be used with a wide range of operating systems, including Mac, Windows, and DOS. It performs well in all aspects, although the scanning feature has room for improvement. The Brother MFC-7460N is also equipped for multitasking, and can remember up to 300 speed dials.
Disadvantages
The machine, however, isn't without flaw. The Brother MFC 7460N can improve on scanning quality, as well as scan and copy speeds, and a wireless configuration may have been useful. Lack of wireless connectivity is also a nuisance, but overall, the machine is quite a reliable tool for the home or a small office.
