Expert review of the Canon IR-C256i printer
The Canon IR C256i toner is a feature rich desktop device with print, copy, and scan functionality. Users can send and store documents on a large hard drive, connect with mobile devices, and access an optional fax, making the C256i a flexible option for busy small to medium-sized offices. It uses Canon’s V2 colour tech for excellent document durability and colour stability. Its prints are sharp and vibrant.
Design
A large 10.1-inch colour touchscreen display is the most striking design choice as it offers an ease of use that is not usually found in compact printers. The device measures 511 x 651 x 639 mm and weighs just under 50 kg. It is powered by Canon’s own custom dual-core 1.75 GHz processor and 3 GB of RAM memory, while a 250 GB hard drive provides ample space for storage and heavier workloads. Connectivity includes Ethernet and wireless LAN, while NFC and Bluetooth can be added as optional extras. There is a standard 250 paper capacity.
Advantages
Canon’s easy device monitoring and fleet management allows businesses of all sizes to tailor document solutions to drive down costs, improve workflows, and ensure the best quality prints. Maximum print resolution is 1200 x 1200 dpi. Mobile print functionality allows users to perform print and scan jobs with smartphones from any location with mobile apps such as Canon’s PRINT Business and Apple AirPrint. Trusted security encryption keeps documents safe and there is a maximum media capacity with add-ons of 2,300 sheets, which is ideal for SMEs.
Disadvantages
The 25-ppm print speed for A4 colour is adequate but below Canon’s higher-end models, while the space saving, desktop design means the Canon IR C256i toner is unlikely to be able to support very intensive workgroups. Noise levels exceed 70 dB when active, which may be disruptive in smaller environments.
