Honestly, for a laser printer in this price range, we didn't fully expect a lot of bells and whistles but we were pleasantly surprised by a few features, but was disappointed that the printer only prints in black and white. We knew that going into the purchase, but the blacks aren't very dark and look more like dark grey. Overall, this is a fine printer that you can find pretty cheap nowadays, but get a colour one if you can.
The design is solid plastic with some metal parts inside for things like turning mechanisms and ink compartments. The printer seems to be more prone to jamming more often than other Dell printers we used. Other than that, it's a very sturdily built machine that seems to have been built to last.
We liked the fact that it's practically plug and play compatible with most operating systems, including Windows 7. The best thing about the printer, however, is the fact that it's discontinued. That means that if you find it, it's going to be extremely discounted. Combine that with the fact that it only prints black & white, and you're in for a bargain. Another great thing is the accuracy, it very rarely messes up text and even images. The final advantage is the printing tray, an often overlooked thing when choosing a printer. This thing can hold over 1,000 sheets of paper, which is fantastic because you'll not have to top it up as often. If you're a part of a business that prints a lot, this would be a sound investment.
There are some things that give this printer less than a lacklustre score, however. The jamming issue is a pretty big one, especially since most modern printers have completely eliminated the problem. Every 20-30 print jobs, the Dell 1110 will jam. That may not seem like such a bad rate, but when you spend a lot of time printing company documents, that's annoyingly frequent. Lastly, compatibility with Apple's OS X operating system isn't great.
