The Dell E525w uses Cartridge Save 593-BBJ toner cartridges. Cartridge Save 593-BBJ toner comes in black and multicolour; the black cartridge prints 2,000 pages, the multicolour cartridge prints 1,400 pages.
This colour multifunction printer is a low cost alternative to pricey all-in-ones in the market, and it offers all the features a small office or personal user may need for productivity. It has full fax functions and produces high-quality colour output. However, the absence of upgrades and duplex function makes the Dell E525w less practical for a growing business.
The Dell E525w measures 410mm wide, 398mm deep, and 353mm tall, and weighs 16.4Kg, and it is powered by a 525MHz processor while running on 512MB RAM. It offers high-speed USB 2.0 as a standard, but it comes with a front USB port and Ethernet, too. The paper tray can handle up to 150 sheets, and the output bin can handle up to 100 sheets. The E525w can transmit fax messages in speeds of up to 33.6Kbps. The scanner is a flatbed CIS type with a built-in automatic document feeder. The user interface has 35 buttons, 10 LEDs, and a four-line, 20-character graphic bitmap LCD screen.
There is a long-lasting single fuser unit to minimise the need for maintenance. It prints in speeds of up to 18ppm, and it supports standalone faxing and copying, as well as direct printing from mobile devices. Ethernet and Wi-Fi enables easy sharing. The Dell E525w can produce high-quality photos and graphics on a wide range of media types. LED printing helps reduce energy use, and the 15-sheet automatic document feeder helps minimise downtime. The Dell E525w lets you print and scan to websites like Evernote and Dropbox.
The paper capacity is low and it does not give much of an option to expand. The absence of a duplexer makes the Dell E525w impractical for users who want to save paper. The boxy and bulky frame is not that appealing. Even if the Dell E525w can print and scan to some websites, it requires software to be installed in the PC and an app to be installed in a smartphone or tablet for that feature to work.
