HP LaserJet 4m Printer Review

Expert review of the HP LaserJet 4m printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

Built for medium and small offices, the HP Laserjet 4M offers laser quality monochrome printing best for producing professional documents. It is quite chunky for a single function laser, though the size is still manageable at 11.7x16.4x15.9 inches. This workhorse is very useful in busy and demanding office environments, with its monthly duty cycle of up to 20,000 pages. Being an old model, the HP Laserjet 4M printer falls behind not only in design but in speed as well, printing at a slow rate of 8 ppm.

Design

The HP Laserjet 4M is a traditional box printer. It is quite heavy at 37 pounds and has a standard paper capacity of up to 250 sheets in its main drawer and up to 100 sheets in the multimedia drawer. An additional 500-sheet cassette can be installed, but this will make the unit even bulkier and heavier. A manual feed slot is also at hand for thicker media that easily jam when fed through the main slot. The HP Laserjet 4M is designed for Macintosh computers, though the base model (HP4) can be used with Windows computers.

Advantages

Print quality is the main highlight of the HP Laserjet 4M. It produces professional-grade documents at affordable costs, thanks to its high-yield toner cartridges with a capacity of up to 6,800 to 8,800 pages. In addition to quality and economical printing, the HP 4M Laserjet printer is also very easy to install, use, and maintain. The Laserjet 4M can use a high capacity black HP 98X toner cartridge for reduced running costs.

Disadvantages

However, the HP Laserjet 4M mono laser printer does not cut it when it comes to speed. At 8 pages per minute, the HP 4M laser printer is far behind other laser printers. It is also bulky and heavy.
