The HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw uses HP 85A toner cartridges. HP 85A toner comes in black; the black cartridge prints 1,600 pages.
Easy to set up, boasting good networking features, and integrated with an automatic document feeder, the HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw is a good option for small offices that need a value-for-money printer with decent speed. However, this printer is not a good choice for a workplace that requires high-capacity printing and copying because of the high cost per page and the limited paper capacity.
The HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw is designed to be environment-friendly, boasting Instant-on Technology, Instant-on Copy, and HP Auto-On/Auto-Off Technologies integrated into one compact machine. Apart from a scanner and copier, the HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw also has a fax machine and a Smart Install feature that makes it easy to install via a USB cable. For a multifunction printer, HP made it exceptionally lightweight at 18 lbs and is also compact. It looks like a miniature photocopier, with the control panel slightly propped up on the left and the 24-bit 1200x1200 dpi scanner on the top.
This midrange printer boasts a plug-and-play feature, so setting it up is easy. The HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw can be integrated into a wired or wireless network (USB, Ethernet, and wireless 802.11 b/g/n). The fax machine comes with auto redial, an answering machine, a PC faxing feature, and a junk fax barrier, and transfers messages at 33.6 Kbps. Other perks of this printer include a print speed of 19 ppm, an automatic document feeder, and support for HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint.
While the HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw is marketed as a small office printer, it may not be a wise choice for above-average print requirements. It can get in the way of productivity with its lack of an auto duplexer and auto scan feature. HP could have given this printer a larger LCD display that's easier to read.
