Expert review of the Kyocera FS-2100D printer
The Kyocera FS-2100D is a reliable monochrome A4 printer for small teams and home offices. It prints in speeds of up to 40ppm and it is flexible in handling larger jobs. It looks more stylish for a business machine, making it more suitable in a contemporary corporate environment, while its excellent paper handling ensures more versatility in producing different types of documents. The absence of colour printing and expensive upgrades could turn some users off.
Design
The dimensions are 380mm wide, 416mm deep, and 285mm tall, giving it a small and compact footprint, and it weighs approximately 13.5Kg with the toner installed. The Kyocera FS-2100D runs on 128MB RAM and 740MHz processing speed. Paper feeds from a 500-sheet universal paper cassette or a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray, and a 250-sheet output bin catches paper face-down. The default interfaces are two USB host ports and high-speed USB 2.0. The control panel has a five-line, LCD display.
Advantages
The print speed is up to 40ppm in A4, with a resolution of up to 1200dpi for crisp and sharp text. Duplexing is a standard feature in the Kyocera FS-2100D for double-sided printing, which can reduce paper consumption. The Kyocera FS-2100D is easy to navigate and programme from the control panel. Direct printing from a flash drive is supported. The RAM is upgradeable to 1152MB and the paper capacity can be increased to 2,600 sheets.
Disadvantages
Networking and the internal print server are optional for the Kyocera FS-2100D. Users would have to choose between installing an SSD hard disc or internal print server because there is only one slot for either of them. There are no finishing options for the Kyocera FS-2100D.
