Kyocera TASKalfa 3551ci Printer Review

Expert review of the Kyocera TASKalfa 3551ci printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Kyocera TASKalfa 3551ci can produce high-quality colour output on a wide range of paper types and sizes, making it versatile for demanding offices and workgroups. The device is an efficient and reliable all-in-one with fast print speeds and a built-in scanner and copier. Users have the option to upgrade with additional document and media finishers to save time.

Design

This is a bulky device that measures 668mm wide, 767mm deep, and 747mm tall, and weighs 114kg. The rugged frame with a matte finish is stylish for the office. The large colour touch panel adds a sophisticated touch to the overall design of the Kyocera TASKalfa 3551ci. It runs on 3.5GB of RAM with 800MHz of dual core processing power. Two 500-sheet universal paper cassettes are supplied to the base unit along with a 150-sheet multi-purpose tray, duplexer, and a 250-sheet output bin. USB 2.0 is present for direct connections with a computer and printing directly from USB flash drives, while Fast Ethernet is useful for network connectivity.

Advantages

The scanner and copier has a range of functions like scan-once-copy-many, image repeat, and booklet copy. The maximum input capacity is 7,150 sheets, and the output capacity can handle as much as 4,300 sheets. The Kyocera 3551ci can produce documents fast, in speeds of up to 35ppm in A4. It can handle a wide range of media types, including transparencies and banners. Part of its extensive media handling features are finishing options that simplify the production of folding brochures and booklets. Optional EFI Fiery controller and scan-to-searchable PDF or OCR can make it easier for user to manage their documents. The Kyocera TASKalfa 3551ci has long-life components for extra reliability and added savings.

Disadvantages

The base unit of the Kyocera TASKalfa 3551ci is already heavy and bulky, and it requires even more installation space as it expands, making this printer expensive to upgrade. The standard 600x600dpi resolution is insufficient for producing smoother and crisp images.
