Expert review of the Lexmark C748dew printer
The Lexmark C748dew is a laser printer at the pricier end of the spectrum, but the extra cost results in an excellent quality of print that is more usually seen on inkjet printers than laser printers. It is best suited to a business that has a high level of printing needs in both black and colour. They will find that it is economical to run and provides them with a professional standard of print. For anyone with a low level of printing requirements, this printer will prove to be expensive and unlikely to meet their needs.
Design
The Lexmark C748dew has the dimensions 435mm x 400mm x 455mm. It is controlled by a touchscreen, and there is also a keypad for entering codes for secure printing jobs. A 550-sheet tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose feed allow plenty of time in between paper reloads. The maximum input capacity is 4,300 sheets. The printing speed is up to 33 ppm, and the printer standard resolution is 1200 x 1200 dpi. It has a monthly duty cycle of 100,000 pages. Connection is via a USB or WiFi. It holds four cartridges in standard printer colours.
Advantages
Setup up is straightforward on the Lexmark C748dew. Text and photographs are of an excellent quality and printing is quick and reliable. The toner cartridges have a low cost per page, saving money in the long term and avoiding delays due to frequent replacements. Further cost can be saved by using the "return program" cartridges. It prints double-sided pages automatically.
Disadvantages
The Lexmark C748dew is an expensive laser printer and does not include copying or scanning functions. It is unlikely to prove economical for anyone with modest printing requirements. The touchscreen is recessed into the unit, which makes operating it awkward. Upgrading the memory is expensive.
