Expert review of the Lexmark CS517de printer
The Lexmark CS517de is a colour laser printer designed for use in a small or home office. Lexmark’s innovative colour technology means that this is ideal for the professional printing of graphics such as logos and brochures. With low noise levels workplace disruption is kept to a minimum. The printer uses high yield toners but paper capacity is on the low side. However, the printer is limited in what it can achieve with no copy, scan or fax function. It is possible to print wirelessly, but this will cost extra. The printer works reliably, but the recommended output is low, meaning it may not be as efficient during times of high volume.
Design
The Lexmark CS517de has the dimensions 306 x 442 x 407mm and comes in a light-coloured design. A control panel on the front of the device includes an e-task 10.9cm colour touch screen. Connection is achieved from a USB or network interface, with an optional Wi-Fi connection. Paper is stored in a 250-sheet input tray. Print speeds are 30ppm, resolution is 2400 x 600 dpi and the monthly duty cycle is 85,000 pages.
Advantages
Ideal for printing brochures and logos the Lexmark CS517de prints to a high professional standard utilising PANTONE and Named Colour Replacement Technology. Duplex printing comes as standard, helping to save on paper costs. High yield toners reduce printer downtime, benefit the environment and keep running costs to a minimum. Operating noise is unobtrusive, reducing work place disruption and leaving staff free to concentrate on other tasks.
Disadvantages
There is no scan, copy or fax function on the Lexmark CS357de. Wi-Fi and mobile printing is only available as an optional extra so will increase the price if this is required. Compared to similar level printers the speed to print the first page is slower and the recommended output is on the low side.
