The Ricoh SP-311DN is a compact and energy-efficient desktop laser printer that is user-friendly, easy to maintain, and fast. It supports networking to make it more useful in a small office. Environmentally friendly features make it worth the investment, but the absence of further upgrades reduces its efficiency for a growing workgroup.
Design
The Ricoh SP-311DN has a boxy, robust, and rugged build that weighs 12.7kg and measures 370mm wide, 392mm deep, and 262mm tall. The input capacities are 250 sheets for the standard tray and 50 sheets for the bypass tray, while the output bin can handle up to 125 sheets of paper, face-down. Connectivity is via USB 2.0 and Ethernet. The device runs on 128MB of memory, and it uses an electrophotographic printing process that is powered by a 360MHz processor.
Advantages
The small footprint of the Ricoh SP-311DN makes it appropriate as a desktop printer. It is fast and can easily be integrated to a network. PCL is supported, and duplexing is automatic. Two-sided printing and the energy saver mode can reduce carbon footprint. The Ricoh SP-311DN warms up in less than 30 seconds and the first page is ready in less than eight seconds. Sharp and smooth monochrome results are produced in 1200x1200dpi. It can handle recycled and thin paper.
Disadvantages
The memory of the Ricoh SP-311DN is not expandable. It only prints in monochrome, Wi-Fi is not supported and Media handling is limited. There are no options to upgrade the paper capacity of the Ricoh SP-311DN. It also lacks support for non-Windows operating systems.
