Expert review of the Samsung SL-M3870 printer
Wireless connectivity features set the Samsung ProXpress SL-M3870 apart from its siblings in the ProXpress series. This model is also praised for its multifunction capabilities. Time-saving elements are built into the device to help increase productivity, save resources, and reduce downtime in a small office, but it is expensive and lacks further expandability options for the growing workgroup.
Design
This multifunction printer weighs 16.64Kg and measures 18.5 inches wide, 19 inches tall, and 17.5 inches deep, requiring additional installation space for ease of use. It is powered by a 600MHz Cotex A5 processor running on 256MB of memory, and connects to a computer via Ethernet and high-speed USB 2.0. The centrepiece of the Samsung SLM3870 is the operator panel with a four-line LCD display. Paper handling is done by a 50-sheet multipurpose tray and a 250-sheet standard cassette, while the output bin can handle 150 sheets.
Advantages
Google Cloud Print, scan-to-USB, N-Up copying, and watermark copy are supported. The device is easier to share because of Wi-Fi. All-in-one cartridges make it easier to maintain the Samsung SL-M3870. The print speeds are up to 40ppm in 1200x1200dpi, so lines, text, and monochrome graphics are sharper on a wide variety of media types and plain paper. There is an RADF to save time and resources. The fax machine can store up to 500 pages in the memory and transmit messages fast, at 33.6Kbps. PC fax, secure receive, and junk fax barrier are supported by the Samsung SLM3870. The memory is upgradeable to 512MB.
Disadvantages
Colour printing is not supported by the ProXpress SL-M3870. It can be intimidating to operate for the first time because of the busy control panel. The Samsung SL-M3870 may be challenging to transport and set up because of its heavy and bulky frame. There are no telephony features in for the fax. The device is already expensive but it can be pricier with upgrades.
