The Canon Pixma MG3600 uses Canon CL-541 ink cartridges. Canon CL-541 ink comes in tri-colour; the tri-colour cartridge prints 180 pages.
This is a simple, single use printer suitable for home use only. The printer’s price point makes it very attractive to home users who do not do a lot of printing, or perhaps students who only need their machine to print, rather than copy, fax and scan as well. It does very well when printing photos which is surprising for such a simple machine but makes it a great choice for families looking to print off holiday photos.
The Canon MG3600 is a compact printer, ideal for sitting atop a desk, in a cupboard or on a shelf. It has a flip up 120 sheet feeder tray on the top and a telescopic output tray at the front, which does increase its overall size when in use. Finished in a high gloss black, this is an attractive looking printer, although the high gloss finish does mean fingerprints show up strongly. There’s also a silver strip at the front to off-set the black. There are only two buttons, both of which are LED backlit when in use and the printer has a single USB port.
The main advantage to this printer is its price and size. Very affordable, the Canon Pixma MG3600 is clearly designed to appeal to home users and casual users such as students. It’s also easy to use and reliable however, with high quality prints produced, even when printing photos. The colour print is especially good, considering the price point, producing high resolution, clean bright text and high quality gradations when printing photos and pictures.
The lack of wireless connectivity makes this printer a thing of the past, and Canon may have heavily overestimated the print speeds. They predict 26ppm for monochrome and 17ppm for colour, which would be truly excellent for such a simple machine, but unfortunately the reality doesn’t quite live up to this expectation. It’s also pretty noisy when in use.
