The Canon Pixma iP5300 uses Canon CLI-8BCMY-PGI-5 ink cartridges. Canon CLI-8BCMY-PGI-5 ink comes in black and multicolour; the black cartridge prints 420 pages, the multicolour cartridge prints 420 pages.
An innovative photo printer, the Canon Pixma iP5300 uses Canon's 3-size droplets technology for more accurate images. This photo centric printer is a significant improvement from the previous iP5200 model, and even features an automatic duplex unit and can print direct to CD. In addition to the new inkjet technology, the Canon Pixma iP5300 also employs a double encoder system for faster print speeds. However, it does not have an on-board LCD screen, and connectivity is limited to USB.
The stylish Canon Pixma iP5300 allows better media handling, featuring a designated slot for printable CDs, along with an auto duplex unit and dual paper input options. Direct printing from digital cameras is also possible with the inclusion of a PictBridge port in the Canon Pixma iP5300 design.
The Canon Pixma iP5300 produces fine prints, with a maximum resolution reaching as high as 9600dpi. Borderless 4x6 inch-photos come out in as fast as 21 seconds. The front panel contains all the operating buttons Individual ink tanks (rather than tri-colour cartridges) means lower running costs.
The Canon Pixma iP5300 lacks advanced connectivity options. Wireless configurations like Bluetooth connectivity as well as a preview-LCD screen (especially for those who like doing quick edits right from the printer) would have been a good feature. Canon has also installed chips in its cartridges, making it hard to look for compatible replacement cartridges.
