The HP OfficeJet 3381 is a space saving, all-in-one printer for home and office use. It has a small digital display for easy inputs and is HP Instant Ink ready for quick printing, scanning, copying and faxing. The printer can be used either wirelessly or via USB and AirPrint, and has a maximum input capacity for photo paper of up to 20 sheets. The combination of built-in Wi-Fi and a 35-page document feeder set this budget-oriented device apart from other similarly priced inkjets.
Design
The OfficeJet 3381 All-in-One printer is a compact offering, at just 45 x 36.4 x 22.4cm. It has a three-sheet automatic document feeder located beneath its curved lid, and a section of this can be folded back to access a feed tray for scanning tasks, and a standard flatbed. The paper white display is clear and provides sensitive touch controls with quick response. The jet black finish complements a range of decor styles.
Advantages
The HP OfficeJet 3831 offers easy maintenance with twin cartridges and can print an A4 page in black or colour in 14 and 17 seconds respectively. It also features a print resolution of 1200 x 1200 rendered dpi for black and 4800 x 1200 optimised dpi for colour. Tested print speeds exceeded the manufacturer's claim, which is rare and very impressive for a budget offering, and it is on the less noisy end of the spectrum. AirPrint makes it easy to complete tasks from an iPhone or iPad.
Disadvantages
Unfortunately, the HP OfficeJet 3831 doesn’t offer duplex print, and tri-colour cartridges can often be wasteful when installed. There is also an abundance of annoying paper selection messages, which can hamper the user experience. Instant ink print costs can also be higher on this model, compared to others.
