The HP Officejet 4656 All-in-One uses HP 302 ink cartridges. HP 302 ink comes in multipack; the multipack cartridge prints 150 pages.
The HP OfficeJet 4656 distinguishes itself among the large group of inkjet printers with its fax and multi-page scanning capabilities. The 4656 may not score the best in terms of paper handling and print speed but it does deliver high quality photo prints and has a myriad of wireless options for smartphone and tablet users. Overall, it offers a compelling feature set for office and light duty use.
The HP OfficeJet 4656 favours function over form, with its large bulk cut into three distinct sections. Users will need to use a small 5.6cm display at the centre of the device to complete any printing, scanning, copying and faxing tasks, but it is fast and intuitive. Connections include Wi-Fi Direct, which is a welcome addition, and the touchscreen menu offers the ability to print from a variety of websites. It has a 35 sheet ADF and a small to medium-sized output tray.
Photo and graphics quality impress and are above average in testing. There is an automatic duplexer and an automatic document feeder, which is not always a given in printers designed for the budget end of the market. The ability to fax also puts it ahead of other MFP offerings, and users can access Wi-Fi to print via the cloud. HP’s Instant Ink initiative can also cut down on running costs, while the automatic document feeder can take care of 35 pages of multi-page jobs. Fax functionality also sets the 4656 apart from other all-in-one offerings.
The lack of an Ethernet connection may lessen its usefulness in commercial environments and performance can be slow when using business applications. Photo resolution and detail are fine but tests show text to be lower in quality than other similarly priced inkjet multi-functional printers.
