The Brother DCP-L3517CDW is a colour laser multifunction printer that is suitable for small-to-medium offices with small-to-medium-volume printing demands. The printer uses a black, a cyan, a magenta and a yellow cartridge. This unit includes printing, copying, faxing and scanning functions. The printer features a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) to facilitate copying and scanning large reports. It will print on a range of media, including plain paper, cardstock, labels and envelopes. The printer accepts a wide range of paper sizes, including letter-size documents, legal-size documents and envelopes. A duplex capability is built into it so that less paper is required for print runs.
Design
The printer weighs 21.7kg and measures 410 x 368 x 475mm. The capacity of the standard paper input tray is 250 sheets. The Brother DCP-L3517CDW features USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi network connections. The printer also features an intuitive 9.4cm touchscreen control panel that helps keep your productivity high. The maximum monthly duty cycle is up to 30,000 pages, but Brother recommends keeping the monthly volume at no more than 1,500 pages.
Advantages
The unit’s flatbed scanner and ADF make copying and scanning documents a breeze. The time to print the first page after warm-up is less than 15 seconds. The print speed is 25 pages per minute. Print resolution is a maximum of 600 x 2400 dpi, colour scan resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi, and monochrome scan resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi. The copy reduction/enlargement range is 25% to 400%. The printer supports Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS operating systems.
Disadvantages
Starting a print run is slow due to the relatively long time to the first page of output. The low recommended monthly print volume could be problematic for growing companies. This printer is also quite heavy at 21.7kg and may be awkward to relocate.
