This desktop inkjet printer by HP is designed for users who need a basic and midrange device that can produce high-resolution and vivid prints in monochrome and full colour. However, the faulty construction, the outdated paper tray, and the unnecessary software that comes with it makes the HP Deskjet 6540 a poor choice.
Design
HP attempts a futuristic design with the HP Deskjet 6540's silver case combined with dark grey tones. All the controls are conveniently located on the front panel to your left, but the indicators are quite small. At 13.2 lbs, the HP Deskjet 6540 is portable; the depth of 14.4 inches makes it rather bulky for a basic printer, though. It is one of HP's older models and still uses wired connectivity via a 4-pin USB type B to a USB 2.0 port.
Advantages
The control panel has a one-touch button for selecting the print quality and a button for cancelling print jobs. Ink levels indicator is in the same area, making it easy to know when you need to replace a cartridge.
