HP Deskjet 9800 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Deskjet 9800 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Deskjet 9800 is among HP's affordable printers aimed at home users who need a basic printer with low operating costs and ability to do large prints. The paper tray which is prone to paper jams the processor is a bit slow, which is understandable because it is an old inkjet model.

Design

The 22-pound HP Deskjet 9800 is an all-around compact printer for the home measuring 22.6 inches wide, 16.1 inches in diameter, and 7.33 inches tall. The maximum quality for black prints is 1200x1200 dpi, while colour prints can be optimised to 4800 dpi. The HP Deskjet 9800 runs on 2 cartridges, and a USB 2.0 cable connects it physically to your computer or laptop.

Advantages

Unlike other HP printers, the Deskjet 9800's monochrome print speed is a little faster at 8 ppm in 'normal' mode and 6 ppm in colour. Drafts can be printed at 20 ppm to 30 ppm. The HP Deskjet 9800 is compatible with Windows Vista; additional drivers are required for Mac and other Windows operating systems. Paper input capacity is 150.

Disadvantages

Whether printing in black or colour and using 'best' mode, the HP Deskjet 9800 is slow. The paper tray (also used in older models) is prone to jamming.
