The HP PSC 1610v uses HP 338 ink cartridges. HP 338 ink comes in black; the black cartridge prints 480 pages.
Offering essential functions for a home office or a small workgroup setting, the HP PSC 1610v boasts excellent print quality and integrates a copier and a scanner all in one versatile device. The HP PSC 1610v also comes with an affordable price tag, ideal even for those who are working with a tight budget. However, this multifunction, while a step above the former PSC 1500 series, still does not offer wireless and fax capabilities. It also doesn't have an ADF system for multiple-page copying or scanning.
A mirror image of the old PSC 1500 units, the HP PSC 1610v has a control panel to the right of the flatbed scanner, plus a small screen for easier task management. HP also added several card readers to the HP PSC 1610v. There's a PictBridge port for direct connection to digital cameras.
The HP PSC 1610v scans at a maximum resolution of 4800x1200dpi, while the copier can enlarge up to 2x the original size of the document, and reduce it up to 50%. Print speeds are pretty impressive, at 18ppm (black) and 14ppm (colour). This multifunction recognizes card types including CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick (Duo and Pro), Magic Gate Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, and xD-Picture Card.
The HP PSC 1610v only supports JPEG format images (for direct-from-camera printing). It does not have networking capabilities. An ADF system would have been useful, especially when copying multiple pages.
