The Photosmart D5460 is no multifunction machine, but it is a decent small printer — certainly one of the best in its price range. It is suitable for home use and is a handy solution for amateur photographers looking to print crisp images. Maximum resolution is 600x600dpi, and average printing speed is 20ppm in draft mode and 10ppm in normal mode. Most 4x6" pictures can be produced in as fast as 28 seconds. However, slight banding is an issue, and so are print roller track marks.
Design
Very similar in terms of design to multifunction printers from the same line, the Photosmart D5640 is a stripped down version without the scanner and copier. It sports the same compact shape but has with less buttons and a simpler 3-way navigational pad. It features separate input trays for different types of media, including a direct CD or DVD printing tray. There is USB connectivity for convenient local printing, plus an integrated card reader for CompactFlash, xD, SD, and MemoryStick cards. A PictBridge-capable port is also at hand for printing on the go.
Advantages
Excellent photo printing quality is still one of the key selling points for the HP Photosmart D5460, in addition to its fast print speeds.
