The Canon Pixma iP4000R uses Canon BCI-6BK ink cartridges. Canon BCI-6BK ink comes in black; the black cartridge prints 440 pages.
The Canon Pixma iP4000R printer is one of Canon's network-ready photo printers with improved media handling features. Specifically made for home users, the Canon Pixma iP4000R is integrated with advanced networking features that families can appreciate, but photo quality may not impress discerning users with an eye for accurate colours and detail.
This 6.9kg photo printer is fairly silent, emitting 35 dBA of noise when in best mode, and surprisingly compact for the desktop. It is integrated with the 5-ink print engine complete with signature technologies like ContrastPLUS, FINE, and Micro-Nozzles. The highest resolution of the Canon Pixma iP4000R is 4800x1200dpi, and it is applicable when doing two-sided and borderless printing, too. The Pixma iP4000R is Wi-Fi and Ethernet-ready, and there is a PictBridge port for more direct printing convenience.
The Canon Pixma iP4000R is fast and true to the claims of up to 17ppm in colour and 25ppm in monochrome. The sheet feeder's capacity is up to 150 sheets and there is an extra cassette to increase overall paper capacity to 300, plus a special tray for directly printing labels on a CD or DVD. As the Canon iP4000R is network-ready (wired or Wi-Fi) it can be considered a modern piece of kit. The overall price and running costs are competitive and reasonable as well.
Professional photographers and discerning users in general may find the overall print quality of the Canon Pixma iP4000R disappointing. Like its predecessor, the iP400, there is obvious banding and dithering in photos while text have feathering around them. The Canon Pixma iP4000R can only print well on Canon speciality paper, so those using ordinary paper may get results that lack quality. Some users complained about system hang-ups and the poor technical configuration of the device.
